Prospect girls put to test over weekend matches against Richmond FC, Prospect Lake

VICTORIA – The Victoria Highlanders Prospect Girls’ MWSL and LIWSA squads faced two challenging fixtures over the weekend, facing second-place Richmond FC ‘A’ as well as Prospect Lake, respectively.

MWSL PREMIER DIVISION STANDINGS

MWSL HIGHLANDERS PROSPECT GIRLS

The MWSL girls fell to Richmond 1-0 in a tightly contested Premier Division affair. Missing five regular starters from their lineup, the Highlanders stepped up and held their own against a well-organized Richmond side who have yet to allow a single goal so far this season.

Highlanders ‘keeper Emily Moore was strong in goal for her side, which move to 2-3-1 on the season with nine points. The victory for Richmond pushes their regular season record to 3-0-0, with Saturday’s match finishing as their closest match to date.

LIWSA HIGHLANDERS PROSPECT GIRLS

In Lower Island Premier Division action, the Co-op Highlanders dropped a 6-0 decision to first-place squad Prospect Lake. A strong second half of play by the Highlanders saw them conceding just one goal in the final half of play. Despite a step-up in defence, it was Prospect Lake’s five-goal first-half that proved to be the deciding factor in the match.

“The entire team all played well,” explained Highlanders head coach Dave Dew. “As a group we progressed and developed through 90 minutes of play.”

Comprised largely of grade 11 players, Dew’s LIWSA squad allows players to gain valuable experience in exhibition matches as they continue to develop within the Highlanders system.

The Highlanders MWSL next face Abbotsford Magnuson Ford United SC, Sunday Oct. 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the University of Victoria’s Field 3. The Highlanders LIWSA squad will face off against Victoria Athletics, also at UVic’s Field 3, Saturday, Oct. 25 at 4:00 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
