Quarterback Brandon Leyh of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 19, 2014.

Leyh is a 6-foot-2, third-year commerce student from New Westminster, B.C. He completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 223 yards, including two touchdown passes in the Mounties’ 33-5 win Saturday over the Acadia Axemen and threw no interceptions.

Defensive Player of the Week

Name: Matt Montgomery

Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: BA Psychology
Height and weight: 5’9″, 190lbs

Linebacker Matt Montgomery of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport football defensive player of the week.

A fourth-year psychology student from Oakville, Ont., Montgomery posted 7.0 total tackles (five solo and four assisted), including two tackles for a loss of six total yards in Saturday’s Mount Allison victory over Saint Mary’s. One of these included a sack for a loss of four yards.

Montgomery also recorded a forced fumble in the 33-5 win.

 

Special Teams Player of the Week

Name: Ryan Begin

Position: Punter/Kicker
Hometown: Orleans, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: BBA
Height and weight: 5’10”, 205lbs

Kicker/punter Ryan Begin of the Acadia University Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport football special teams player of the week.

A fourth-year business student from Orleans, Ont., Begin was successful on his lone field goal attempt in Acadia’s recent loss to Mount Allison.

Begin is now 16 for 16 on the season in field goal attempts.

His stats in Saturday’s loss also included 12 punts for 418 yards and a kickoff for 43 yards.
