Brianna Carrels leads the entire field at the Annual Vikes Golf Shootout

(ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – First-year University of Victoria Vikes women’s golfer Brianna Carrels is in first place after the first round at the annual Vikes Golf Shootout hosted at the Cordova Bay Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. Carrels shot 3-over 75 to keep the Vikes in second place by two strokes (317).
Carrels logged two birdies and shot par on 12 holes to sit on top of the leader board by one stroke. Simon Fraser’s Breanne Croxen finished with a 76, while team mate Kylie Jack was not far behind at 77.
The UBC Thunderbirds lead the team standings (315) thanks to Winnie Hyun and Kat Kennedy, both shooting a 78 on day one. Reagan Wilson shot a 79 to sit tied for eighth. Simon Fraser trails the Vikes in third place with a team score of 319.
Vike Shannon Raina, who shot 80, was the next lowest score on the team, followed by Michaela Abey and Emily Nicol, both tied for 13 with a score of 81. Cari Chow rounded out the Vikes’ team score with an 88.
Second year Cadence Hellman, competing as an individual, shot 11-over 83, while Laura Ferreira and Cassandray Paynter carded a 90 and 96, respectively.
The Vikes women will tee-off again tomorrow morning, Oct. 21, at Cordova Bay Golf Club for their second and final round of the Vikes Golf Shootout.
