McGill to host CCBA national baseball championship, Oct. 23-26

MONTREAL — McGill University will host the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association championship, Oct. 23-26. The six-team tournament is scheduled to feature 12 games over a four-day span, with the semifinals and sudden-death final slated for Sunday, Oct. 26.

McGill (14-6), which qualified as host team, is grouped in a Pool A with Northern Division champion Concordia (11-9) and Atlantic Division champions Holland College (16-2) of Charlottetown, P.E.I. All three will play round-robin crossover games with Pool B teams, namely UNB Varsity Reds (15-3; Atlantic finalists), Saint Mary’s Huskies (8-10; Atlantic semifinalists) and the Universite de Montreal (12-8; Northern semifinalists).

Tickets will be available at the door. Day passes are $5 and a tournament pass is available for only $10. Children 12-and-under get in for free.

Opening day matchups on Thursday feature McGill against UNB at Lake Road Park in suburban Dollard des Ormeaux at 7:30 p.m. The two other games are slated for Parc Pierre-Elliott Trudeau in Cote St. Luc. Holland plays Montreal at 5 p.m., followed by a Concordia – Saint Mary’s tilt at 8 p.m. After the preliminary round, the top four teams with the best records will advance to Sunday’s playoff round.
