Vikes men’s golfer Lawren Rowe in action at the annual Vikes Golf Shootout

(ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team are currently tied in second place at the annual Vikes Golf Shootout hosted at Cordova Bay Golf Cub, Oct. 20-21, in Victoria, B.C. The Vikes men shot a team score of 297 in Round 1, tied with Calgary, while Manitoba lead by seven strokes (290). Rookie Andrew Funk lead the Vikes with a first-round score of 72 on the par-71 course.
Second-year Vike Bruce Tomie, competing as an individual in the event, finished tied for second after shooting par-71 and earning par on 12 holes. First-year Vike Mike Griffin, also competing as an individual, finished with a 72 after recovering from two bogies.
Manitoba’s Devon Schade lead the entire field of 47 after he shot a Round 1 score of 69. Fellow Bisons teammate finished tied with Tomie for second place with an even score. Calgary’s Ben Copeland was the lowest scoring Dino on Day 1 after shooting 72, while Ian Jamieson finished with a 73.
Rookie standout Lawren Rowe was the second-highest Vike in the team standings finishing with a 74, one birdie and shooting par on 13 holes. Third year Matthew Broughton also shot 74, while Alex Cartwright finished with 77 and Jesse Teron finished with 82.
The Vikes will tee-off early tomorrow morning, Oct. 21, at Cordova Bay Golf Club for their second and final round of play.
