VANCOUVER – For the second time in three tournaments, every UBC Thunderbirds golfer finished in the top-10 to lead the squad to victory. This time, it was at the University of Victoria Vikes Shootout, which concluded on Tuesday at the Cordova Bay Golf Course.
UBC shot 315 on Monday to lead by two strokes over Victoria going into today’s final round. The Thunderbirds carded a 305 today to complete a dominant victory, 23 shots ahead of the hosts. UBC’s 305 was Tuesday’s best round by 21 shots.
Kat Kennedy claimed first place in the individual competition by finishing at 4-over par (78-72—150). It is the first collegiate tournament victory for the Okotoks, Alta., native.
Reagan Wilson of Calgary placed third for UBC at 9-over (79-76—155). Barbara Neto-Bradley, a first-year golfer from Porto, Portugal, was fifth at 12-over (80-78—158).
Langley’s Winnie Hyun tied for seventh with a final score of 14-over (78-82—160) and Stephanie Wong of Richmond was tied for ninth at 16-over (83-79—162).
At the Concordia (Ore.) University Cavalier Classic, which took place Oct. 6-7, UBC golfers finished second through seventh as the team claimed first place.
The Vikes Shootout is UBC’s final tournament of the fall. The team’s next event will be the California State University-Monterey Bay Lady Otter Invitational, starting Mar. 22 in Seaside, Calif.
