ST. CATHARINES, Ont — Mitch Farrell and Rotimi Osuntla each tallied 23 points as Windsor defeated McGill 80-74 on Day 1 of the Brock RBC Classic men’s basketball tournament, Friday.

It was the fourth loss in their last five CIS preseason games for the Redmen, who dropped to 3-4 against CIS opponents.

Dele Ogundokun, a sophomore guard from Hamilton, Ont., led the way for McGill with 21 points going 6-of-12 from the floor, 2-of-3 from downtown and a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line. He also added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. 

Teammate and reigning RSEQ Most Valuable Player Vincent Dufort was the only other Redmen to reach double digits in scoring adding 10 points. He also collected seven rebounds in a team high 29 minutes. Michael Peterkin and Rodrigo Imperador both chipped in nine points in the losing effort. 

McGill, which had a 44-37 edge in rebounds, shot 33.8 per cent from the floor (24/71), went 7-for-20 from the arc and connected on an impressive 19 of 21 attempts from the foul-line. The Lancers shot 36.9, 33.3 and 70.3, respectively, making 26-of-37 from the line.

The Redmen were trailing 15-14 after the opening stanza, and kept it close only getting outscored 11-10 in the second to take just a 26-24 deficit into the intermission. McGill was outscored 30-22 in the third and had a slight 28-24 edge in the final quarter.

McGill will now battle the York University Lions in their second RBC Classic matchup Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
