Bourque is brilliant as Redmen hoopsters beat Lions

ST. CATHARINES, Ont — Francois Bourque of Terrebonne, Que., led all scorers with 22 points as McGill defeated the York Lions 83-60 in men’s preseason basketball during the second day of the RBC Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Redmen led 20-8 after the opening quarter, 41-31 at the half and 61-42 after three. They shot an impressive 54 per cent from the field (34/63), 33.3 from three-point range (4/12) and 68.8 from the line (11/16). York, who were out rebounded 38-20, shot a poor 33.3, 17.4 and 78.3, respectively.

Bourque, an economics sophomore, connected on 10 of 16 attempts from the field and went 2-for-4 from the foul-line in 29 minutes of court time.

Freshman Jawara Pedican of Vaughn, Ont., and Regis Ivaniukas, a sophomore from Oakville, Ont., added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Redmen, while teammate Dele Ogundokun was also impressive with nine points and nine assists.

Nick Tufegdzich picked up 14 points for York, while his Lions teammate Denmark McDonald had 9 points.

York plays UQAM on Sunday at 3:15 p.m., while McGill meets Ryerson at 10 a.m.
