COTE ST. LUC, Que. — Saturday’s match between McGill and Universite de Montreal was more reminiscent of a Simon Brisebois one-man show.

The Carabins pitcher’s superheroics almost single-handedly dispatched McGill in a 9–2 rout at the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association Championship tournament, as he proved effective both on the mound and at the dish.

Brisebois went 4-for-5, serving up a game-high three RBIs, while also pitching a complete game six-hitter with no earned runs allowed.

McGill’s pitching staff, in total, surrendered 13 hits on Saturday. Third-year Nolan Werre of St. Albert, Alta., who picked up the loss, allowed seven of those hits and three earned runs in just two innings of work.

Fourth-year pitcher Simon Ehrmantraut of Vancouver, B.C. gave up four hits, while rookie Arravinth Anantharajah of Ajax, Ont. surrendered the other two.

McGill’s fielding didn’t prove much better, as the team racked up four errors on the day. At least one run was given up in five straight innings, including a four-run explosion from the Carabins, giving them a 5–0 lead by the third inning.

Anantharajah, second-baseman Jamie Fuoco, catcher Steven Rintoul, third-baseman Robert Sedin and shortstop Tyler Welence each had one hit for McGill.

The cross-town rivals battled five times during the 2014 regular season, with McGill winning the season series 3–2. Their most recent tilt came on Oct. 1 in a 9–8 extra-innings thriller won by the Redmen.

Regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game between Holland College and Saint Mary’s, McGill and UdeM — both sporting indential 2–1 records — will face each other in the second-seed vs third-seed semifinal on Sunday, October 26 at Lake Road Park. First pitch goes at 10 a.m.
