VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC CLINCH MLS CUP PLAYOFF BERTH
‘Caps will begin playoff run at FC Dallas this Wednesday, October 29
(ISN) – VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have clinched a berth in the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs, the club’s second playoff appearance in four seasons since joining MLS in 2011.
With Saturday’s 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids, the ‘Caps secured the fifth and final postseason berth in the Western Conference and will play on the road in the Knockout Round. Vancouver will begin the playoffs at FC Dallas on Wednesday, October 29 with kickoff set for 6 p.m. PT live on TSN1.
Should Whitecaps FC advance past the Knockout Round, the ‘Caps would host their first-ever home playoff match in the first leg of the Western Conference semifinals on either Saturday, November 1, orSunday, November 2, at BC Place against Supporters’ Shield winners Seattle Sounders FC. The second leg of the conference semifinals would see Whitecaps FC playing on the road at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Monday, November 10.
Tickets to the club’s first home playoff match are included in all 2014 Season Ticket Holder packages. Single match tickets for the Western Conference semifinal are on sale now atwhitecapsfc.com/playoffs.
The conference championship series first leg will be played between November 22 and 23 and the second leg between November 29 and 30. MLS Cup is set for Sunday, December 7, at the home venue of the remaining team with the best regular-season record.
This is the Blue and White’s second MLS postseason berth, and 33rd playoff appearance in 39 all-time seasons for the club. Vancouver’s first MLS Cup playoff appearance came in 2012 when they played on the road against eventual MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy. Darren Mattocks opened the scoring in the first half before the Galaxy came back in the second half to win 2-1.
