Erich Eichhorn (ISN) – The Victoria Royals added to the Vancouver Giants road trip woes; sweeping the two game series with a 3-2 win on Pink in the Rink night at Save On Foods Arena in front of 5,089 fans.

For the Giants, it was an opportunity to put a victory in the road win column, but instead, the Royals and Austin Carroll would hand them their 5th consecutive road loss to pickup valuable points early in the season.

There as no surprise in net for either team, as starter Coleman Vollrath (sav%. 895) would stand in between the pipes against Payton Lee (sav%. 907) for the second straight night.

Vancouver would get on the board first at the 5:39 of the first period when Matt Bellerive, on a Giants power play, would get the puck past Vollrath on a scramble for the puck in front of the net that seemed to handcuff the Royals third year goalie. The Royals would even the ice when Taylor Crunk, on assists from Logan fisher and Ryan Gagnon, would score half way through the period to even the score 1-1. Crunk, with perhaps a little extra ambition in his blood after his goal scored only a minute earlier, would appear to accept a centre -ice challenge from defenseman Arvin Atwal. Atwal would appear to get the worst of the tilt, having to leave for repairs and come back to the ice sporting a cage on his helmet. Both players would serve a 5-minute major for fighting. Victoria would be heavily outshot in the period 17-7.

Austin Carroll would give his team the go ahead goal and a 2-1 lead in the second period on a pass from Blomqvist and Magee, at 9:08 while on the power play, after Giants Joel Hamilton would be sent to the penalty box for tripping.  The Royals Tyler Soy, skating onto the loose puck with Giants Mason Geertsen in his hip pocket, would get upended and sent face first in the end boards. After being attended to on the ice, Soy would be assisted of the ice and wouldn’t return.  The Victoria Royals faithful, not quick to forget who upended Taylor Soy, would jeer Geersten for the remainder of the game any time he came close to the puck.

Victoria would do a much better job at getting pucks to the net in the second frame, throwing 17 shots at the Giants net minder Lee in the second, and finishing the period a respectable 23-20 shots on goal in favor of the Giants.

The Vancouver Giants would even the score in the third period, when, much to the ire of the Royals fans, Mason Geertsen would knot the score at 2 goals apiece.  The line of Carroll, Maggee, and Blomqvist would pay dividends one last time, as Austin Carroll would score his second goal of the evening with 7:33 remaining in the game and lift the Royals to a 3-2 win and third place in both the BC Division and the Western Conference standings.
