A 21-year-old junior majoring in bio-resource engineering, he batted .529 (9-for-17), with two walks, a pair of doubles, three RBIs and five runs scored. Welence, who enrolled at McGill out of Ridgewood high school, guided the Redmen to a 6-1 victory over Concordia in Sunday’s gold medal game after a 2-0 semifinal win over the Universite de Montreal. In the preliminary round, McGill defeated UNB (8-0) and Saint Mary’s (6-1) before losing 9-2 to Montreal.
