(ISN) – PARKSVILLE, B.C. – Michael Fretz scored twice as the Victoria Cougars upended the Oceanside Generals for the second time in exactly a week, earning a 6-2 victory on Saturday.
Also scoring for Victoria, who led 1-0 after one period and 5-2 after two, were Wade Johnson, John Kretzschmar, Howard Howden, and Sam McMullen.
The win moves the Cougars (12-2-1-0) into a tie with the Westshore Wolves for first place in the South Island Division. And to top it off Victoria still has three games in hand on the Wolves.
Tanner Browne and Kyle Wade, who was named the game’s first star, replied for Oceanside (2-14-1-0).
Making his seventh start in net for the Cougars was Anthony Ciurro. The 18-year-old goaltender from Peoria, Arizona made 18 saves for his sixth win of the season.
200 feet away was Joakim Jutras who allowed five goals on 29 shots before being replaced by Austin Caktas at the start of the third period.
Caktas made six saves in relief.
Extending his point streak to 14 games was Robert Zadra who picked up an assist on Fretz’s second goal.
Victoria went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Generals were 0-for-5.

Next game for the Cougars is Thursday, October 30 against the Oceanside Generals. Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
