Missed PAT downs No. 3 Villanova at No. 14 Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Michael Rocco ran for the go-ahead touchdown Saturday and Richmond cashed in on a missed point-after attempt to beat Villanova 10-9.

Villanova’s Steve Weyler kicked a 24-yard field goal and John Robertson hit Lincoln Collins with a 5-yard scoring pass to give the Wildcats a 9-3 third-quarter lead.

But Weyler missed the point-after attempt and Rocco capped the Spiders’ next drive with a 15-yard scoring run.

Rocco was 21 of 42 for 314 yards passing with two interceptions and gained 15 yards on eight carries. Brian Brown caught eight passes for 119 yards for the Spiders.

Richmond’s defense held Villanova, which has surpassed 40 points six times in eight games this season, to 114 yards rushing. Richmond (7-2, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association) outgained the Wildcats 380-253.

Robertson was 12 of 25 for 139 yards and had 22 carries for 65 for Villanova (7-2, 4-1).

No. 10 Fordham crushes Colgate 37-13

BRONX, N.Y. — Peter Maetzold threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, two to Tebucky Jones Jr., to lead Fordham to a 37-13 win against Colgate on Saturday.

Jones Jr. finished with 97 yards on eight catches, with both of his touchdowns coming in the first quarter. Chase Edmonds added 119 yards on the ground and two more scores for the Rams, who racked up 459 total yards and scored 37 of the game’s first 43 points.

Defensively, Fordham (8-1, 4-0 Patriot League) held Colgate to just 73 yards passing and intercepted quarterback Bret Mooney three times. John Maddaluna led Colgate (4-5, 2-1) with three catches for 58 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown strike from Mooney on the Raiders final drive of the game. James Holland added 71 yards rushing on seven carries.
