Box Score
MONTREAL — Samuel Labrecque, a defenceman from Granby, Que., scored a power-play goal with six seconds remaining as McGill rallied from a two-goal deficit to roar past the York University Lions in OUA men’s hockey at McConnell Arena, Saturday.

The result extended McGill’s win streak to four and improved their OUA record to 6-2-0.

The Redmen, who had a lopside 52-22 edge in shots, thoroughly dominated the Lions every where but on the scoreboard…. other than the last dozen minutes of the game.

York jumped into an early 2-0 first-period lead, on goals by rookies Dylan Smoskowitz of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Greg Milner of Watford, Ont., at 4:50 and 11:32. The first goal was credited to Smoskowitz, whose initial shot had been blocked at the top of the circle but was accidently slapped in the rebound by McGill forward Mathieu Pompei.

The Redmen, who had an astounding 98-39 advantage in attempted shots, spent what seemed like the remainder of the game in York’s end of the ice but couldn’t seem to solve netminder Chris Perugini, a junior from King City, Ont.

However, once the Perugini puzzle was solved by Pompei, who made amends for his “own goal” miscue at 7:19 of the final period, it seemed only a matter of time before the momentum shift paid off. David Rose then connected for a power-play marker, his seventh of the season, at 17:05, setting the stage for Labrecque’s heroics.
