EDMONTON, ALTA. – The Edmonton Oil Kings had no response for the Everett Silvertips defence Saturday night.
The Oil Kings (9-5-0-2) were shut out for the first time in 2014-15 as they fell 3-0 to the Silvertips (10-1-2-1) in Everett.
The Oil Kings struggled to generate any offensive opportunities against the Silvertips defence as the home side continually gummed up the neutral zone and defensive end as the Oil Kings lost their third straight game.
Everett opened the scoring with 4:49 left in the first period as Carson Stadnyk centred to Ivan Nikolishin, who put the puck into the back of the Oil Kings net from right in front.
The ‘Tips took a 2-0 lead in the second period as Remi Laurencelle deflected a long shot high into the air through traffic and it bounced behind Tristan Jarry in the Edmonton net.
Cole MacDonald made it 3-0 for the home team with a long shot from the point just 57 seconds into the third period.
Everett finished 1-4 with the man advantage, while Edmonton was held without a power play for the second time in its last four games.
Jarry made 28 saves for Edmonton in a losing effort, while Austin Lotz stopped all 21 fired his way for his first shutout of the season.
Mads Eller returned to the Oil Kings lineup after missing six games with a lower-body injury.
The Oil Kings will be back in action Sunday night as they take on the Portland WInterhawks in a rematch of the past 3 WHL Championship Series.
