(ISN) – The Westshore Rebels Junior football team is elated and honoured after the British Columbia Football Conference selected the Westshore Rebels team as the recipients of this years ‘Dave Cook Memorial award’, recognizing the Most Sportsmanlike team in the BCFC as voted upon by football officials and executives across the BCFC.
Sportsmanlike meaning from the dictionary states, “Demonstrating good sportsmanship, behaving in an honourable and appropriate manner”.
This was a true team award and Rebels President Elise Pastro commented on the latest team award, “the Westshore Rebel players and coaches emulated sportsmanlike on many levels in their 2014 season. Junior football is a physically and mentally intense game involving men 17 to 22 years old. The drive and determination playing this sport is sometimes clouded by immense frustration and disappointment. Watching those men on the field during a serious butt kicking, they didn’t resort to dirty plays, taunting or unacceptable behaviour but finished the game, with their heads held high. They gracefully helped up an opponent on the field when it was them who tackled them down. Once the game was over, win or loss they left it all on the field and shook hands with their opponents. I am very proud of our players and coaches who fought the clean fight this season and they are most deserving of the Dave Cook Memorial award.
