It’s November again. The weather is getting colder, rowers are hunkering down for a winter’s worth of training, and moustaches are beginning to sprout on the upper lips of individuals who dare to grow them.
The Movember campaign is upon us.
In what has turned into a worldwide event, individuals grow moustaches for the entire month of November in an attempt to raise awareness, as well as funds, to help men’s health initiatives.
Started in 2003 in Australia, the campaign now boasts the participation of 21 countries. To date, more than 570 million CAN$ have been raised around the world.
In the spirit of friendly competition, the athletes and staff at Rowing Canada Aviron have challenged their counterparts in Australia in a pan-pacific Mo-off.
Usually competing against each other on the water, this competition will see which team can raise the most money for this worthy cause. In addition, the contest will finally demonstrate which side of the Pacific can lay claim to growing the most notable moustache.
As of November 4th, Team Rowing Canada Aviron had raised $1,700 while Team Australia had taken in only $80.
