(ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – Rookie Lawren Rowe was the top University of Victoria Vikes men’s golfer at the 2014 Cougars Fall Classic Invitational hosted at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, Calif. Rowe finished tied for seventh after a three-round score of par, 216.
The Vikes men finished fourth overall with a team score of 14-over, 878. The University of Redlands impressed winning the tournament with a three-round score of 6-under, 858, six strokes of second-placed CSU-San Marcos who finished par 864. Master’s College was third 11-over, 875, just three strokes ahead of the Vikes.
Rowe shot his best round on the final day improving from 72 and 73 in his opening rounds to a 71 in round three. Rowe was tied for seventh with Embry-Riddle’s Tyler Harrison in a field of 59 golfers.
Fellow rookie Mike Griffin finished tied with CSU-San Marcos’ Dale Smith at 1-over 217. Griffin shot a 71 in his first and third rounds and a 72 in round three.
Andrew Funk shot his best score in round three (73), to finish tied for 17th with a score of 7-over, 221. Second-year Vike Bruce Tomie shot 8-over 224, while Matthew Broughton finished tied for 44th (18-over, 234).
Redlands’ Bobby Holden was incredible throughout the three rounds shooting 73-66-67 to finish first overall (10-under, 206). There was a three-way tie for second place, all with a score of 5-under 211, earned by Dylan Healey and Scott Shefflette, both of CSU-San Marcos, as well as Redlands’ Anthony Estes.
Rowe birdied 11 holes, while Griffin birdied 10 throughout the three rounds. Funk shot par on 37 holes.
The Cougars Fall Classic is the final event for the Vikes women’s golf team until 2015.
