Portland went back up at the 12:58 mark on a 3-on-2 when Ethan Price carried the puck into the Red Deer zone and fed Miles Koules, who fired a shot from the left faceoff circle past Toth for a 2-1 lead. The Rebels tied it again at the 16:31 mark on a goal by Austin Strand to make it a 2-2 game heading into the second.

Then just 1:15 later, Chase De Leo pounced on a loose puck in the crease and fired it in to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the third.

It remained tied until 10.8 seconds remained, when Red Deer’s Johnson scored his second of the night to give the Rebels a 5-4 win.

The Hawks (7-11-0-2) are back in action tomorrow when they host the Kamloops Blazers at 7 p.m. at the Moda Center.
