(ISN) – Ottawa, Ont. — Dressage Canada is proud to announce that Zap Productions is the recipient of the 2014 Dressage Canada Media Award of Excellence in recognition of their outstanding production of the documentary, THE POWER OF 2 ON THE ROAD TO GOLD.
On Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Cinema 1, the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) and Zap Productions presented, along with hosts Mary Ellen and Michael Horgan, Sheryl and David Kerr, and Terry and Corey O’Sullivan, the premiere of the documentary: THE POWER OF 2 ON THE ROAD TO GOLD. With all the interest in the documentary from equestrian and non-equestrians alike, the cinema, which holds 472 people, was a sell-out.
The film, which features the 2011 Canadian Pan Am silver medal dressage team, tells the behind-the-scenes story of the riders and horses as they make the journey to Guadalajara, Mexico to win a medal for Canada.
“When I received the email telling me that we were the recipients of the 2014 Dressage Canada Media Award, I was, firstly, shocked; then amazed, honoured and certainly humbled to receive this award,” said Wendy Watson, music producer, composer, arranger and co-owner of Zap Productions. “With this recognition, my partner, Lewis Manne, and I hope that many more people will want to see the documentary.”
“I have been producing music for freestyles, as a sponsor, for many years with the Stoney Lake Equestrian riders,” added Watson. “Over these years, Lewis and I have seen that very little recognition is given to this sport. Plus, very few non equestrians even know what dressage is. I was inspired to make this documentary the day we attended, at Palgrave, the competition to choose the 2011 Canadian Pan Am Dressage Team. I was shocked to see that there were so few people there to encourage the riders, who had worked and sacrificed so much to get to this point.”
“Thank you Zap Productions for this wonderful film, which highlights your talents as filmmakers as well as promoting our amazing sport,” said the chair of Dressage Canada, Sarah Bradley.
