Denny’s WHL Player of the Week

(ISN) – The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets’ forward Rourke Chartier is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 9, 2014.

Chartier picked up four goals and four assists for eight points while posting a +6 rating in three games over the past week, leading the Rockets to three straight wins in that span.

On Wednesday, November 5th, Chartier scored and set up two more for a three-point outing as the Rockets downed the visiting Victoria Royals 5-1. On Friday, November 7th, Chartier scored twice, including the game-winner, and was named the game’s 2nd Star in a 4-2 triumph over the visiting Spokane Chiefs. On Saturday, November 8th, Chartier scored for a seventh straight game while adding two assists for his third three-point effort in four games as the Rockets posted a 5-0 shutout win over the visiting Vancouver Giants.

Chartier, an 18-year-old product of Saskatoon, SK, is in his third season in the WHL with the Rockets, and currently leads all WHL players with 18 goals through 18 games. The 5’11”, 190lb forward, who was selected in the first round, 15th overall, in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, has amassed 55 goals and 120 points in 148 career regular-season contests with Kelowna. Chartier was chosen by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round, 149th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Eric Comrie of the Tri-City Americans for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. The 19-year-old from Edmonton, AB, managed a 3-0-0-0 record with a shutout in three starts over the past week, allowing just four goals on 88 shots for a 1.31 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in that span. On Wednesday, November 5th, Comrie stopped all 25 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season while being named the game’s 1st Star in a 1-0 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings. On Friday, November 7th, Comrie turned aside 36 of 38 shots to backstop the Americans to a 5-2 win over the visiting Kamloops Blazers. On Saturday, November 8th, Comrie made 23 saves on 25 shots as the Americans edged the visiting Red Deer Rebels 3-2 in overtime. Now in his fourth season in the WHL with the Americans, Comrie has posted a 75-51-6-8 record with 10 shutouts in 144 career regular season appearances. He was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the second round, 59th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft.
