(ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks fell 4-3 in a shootout Friday in Everett against the Silvertips. The Hawks picked up a point in the standings with the game going to overtime.
Portland had a great first period with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal, and took a 1-0 lead 1:11 into the game on defenseman Keoni Texeira’s first goal of the season.
The second period then saw the two teams combine for five goals. Everett tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Brayden Low 1:39 into the period. The Hawks regained a lead with a power play goal from Chase De Leo at the 3:50 mark, then made it 3-1 when Paul Bittner scored at the 8:35 mark.
The Silvertips later got goals from Noah Juulsen and Ivan Nikolishin to tie the game at 3-3 going into the third period.
In the third Portland had a 9-4 advantage in shots, but neither team was able to score as the game went to overtime still tied 3-3.
After a scoreless extra frame, the game went to a shootout. Everett’s Nikolishin and Graham Millar scored in the first two rounds, while the Hawks had their two attempts turned away, as the Silvertips finished with the 4-3 victory.
The Hawks (8-11-0-3) and Silvertips meet again Sunday in Portland at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 5 p.m.
