Scott Holm’s goal in OT for Air Force sends No. 17 Robert Morris to first loss

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Scott Holm scored 29 seconds into overtime, and Chris Truehl made a career-high 44 saves, as Air Force beat 17th-ranked Robert Morris 2-1 in an Atlantic Hockey Association game on Saturday, at the 84 Lumber Arena.

Holm’s overtime game-winner was his second of the season. Air Force improved to 3-6-2 overall, 2-2-2 in the AHA this season.

The Falcons ended RMU’s nine-game unbeaten streak to start the season as the Colonials fell to 7-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the league.

In a 4-on-3 power-play situation in the second period, Air Force opened the scoring as senior Cole Gunner scored his team-leading fifth of the season. Sophomore A.J. Reid and senior Scott Holm assisted on the goal. At the end of two periods, RMU had a 28-15 shot advantage.

The Colonials tied the game at 12:16 of the third period as Cody Wydo, the conference’s leading scorer, scored on the power play.

Early in overtime, Gunner made a long pass to Scott Holm at the blue line. Holm skated in and his wrister gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Holm also scored the game-winner in overtime to beat RIT, earlier this season.

Robert Morris outshot Air Force 45-24 in the game. Each team was 1-for-3 on the power play. Dalton Izyk made 23 for the Colonials.
