COMPLETE CHAMPION LUNCH RAISES 150K FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s annual Complete Champions Lunch fundraising event raised a record $150,000 for Spartan student-athletes last Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre.

The 6th Annual Dowco Group Complete Champions Lunch, which featured guest speaker Anthony Calvillo, exceeded this year’s goal of $135,000 and topped last year’s total by nearly $30,000.

The corporate event, which is hosted by the Spartan Foundation, is entirely focused on raising funds for the TWU Spartans Athletics program and the Complete Champion Approach with the intention to impact student-athlete lives.

“We are so encouraged that this corporate fundraising lunch continues to grow and gain momentum each year to help the teams and athletes,” said Steve Scholz, Executive Director of the Spartan Foundation. “We feel extremely blessed by the support from our corporate sponsors, table sponsors and donors who contributed to our matching fund, as well as those who donated on the day of the event. It is exciting to invest and help student-athletes grow and develop today, as one day, they will be our future leaders.”

The lunch featured retired CFL quarterback Calvillo as the guest speaker. The three-time Grey Cup champion shared his story – from the football field to his faith – to the crowd of nearly 350 in attendance.

“The biggest thing is that (the Spartan Foundation) is raising funds to help athletes go out there and perform on the field,” Calvillo said. “That’s something that is very important to me and this opportunity also gave me the chance to speak about my faith, which I don’t get too many opportunities to do so out in the public.”
