(ISN) – Tyler Benson scored in his return to the lineup, but the Vancouver Giants fell 6-2 to the Regina Pats at the Pacific Coliseum on Friday night. Jackson Houck also found the net in the losing cause.
Vancouver got out to a great start as Benson opened the scoring just 1:57 into the game, beating Regina goalie Daniel Wapple between the legs with a backhand shot. Houck extended Vancouver’s lead to 2-0 when he scored on a breakaway after a great pass from Carter Popoff to send him in alone. However, the Pats got goals from Adam Brooks and Dryden Hunt to tie the game at 2-2 before the end of the first period.
Langley native Kyle Burroughs put Regina ahead in the second period, scoring the eventual winning goal on a shot from the blue line before Austin Wagner made it 4-2 on a strong individual effort, driving the net off right wing and beating Cody Porter who came into the game after Payton Lee conceded three goals on 15 shots. Hunt would tally his second of the evening in the third period, and Braden Christoffer rippled the mesh in the final minute to complete Regina’s scoring.
Dakota Odgers made his Vancouver Giants debut while Josh Thrower did not make it to Vancouver in time to dress for the game.
The Giants will be back in action tomorrow night against the Prince George Cougars at the Pacific Coliseum. Face-off is set for 7:00pm.
