(ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team fell to the CIS No. 6-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies for the second-straight night. Despite a game-high 29-point performance from fifth year forward Jessica Renfrew, the Huskies took the game 89-68 on Nov. 22 at the PAC in Saskatoon.

The Huskies are now undefeated in four games and improve to a 4-2 record while Victoria are now 2-4 in the Pioneers Division of the Canada West.

Renfrew was just one of three Vikes that hit double digits as the fifth-year was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe and 2-for-3 from three-point land. Third year Jenna Bugiardini put up 18 points and first year stand out Amira Giannattasio added 11. Senior point guard Cassandra Goodisimpressed as the Vikes’ rebound leader logging seven in 33 minutes played, while also sealing the game with eight assists.

Four Huskies scored double digits to power Saskatchewan to the win. Reigning Canada West MVP Dalyce Emmerson led the quartet tallying 20 points, CIS-transfer Laura Dally added another 19, while Kelsey Trulsrud scored 14 and Riley Humbert 12. Emmerson and Trulsrud each recorded seven rebounds in the game.

The Huskies’ strong shooting proved to be the difference in the game. Saskatchewan shot at 63 per cent on the night after making 35-of-56 shots. Victoria shot just 39 per cent in the game only making 24-of-61 baskets and hitting just one three pointer in the second half. The middle two quarters also proved to play a role after Saskatchewan outscored Victoria 48-29 in the two frames.

Saskatchewan led by just two points at 20-18 after the first quarter but the Huskies nearly doubled the Vikes in the second quarter outscoring Victoria 23-14 to lead 43-32 at halftime. The Huskies expanded its lead to 68-47 by the end of the third quarter.
