(ISN) – University of Victoria defenceman Dylan Hykawy has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League’s Player of the Week for the week ending November 23rd.
Hykawy opened the weekend by scoring both Vikes goals in a 6-2 home defeat to Simon Fraser University on Friday night at the Ian Stewart Complex.
And he did one better on Saturday, scoring his first BCIHL hat trick as UVic rebounded with a 6-4 victory.
The 21-year old scored on a first period power-play before netting back-to-back goals in the third — including a shorthanded marker — to nail down the win.
Hykawy, who joined the Vikes from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Swan Valley Stampeders, has been one of the team’s key leaders at both ends of the rink as a rookie. He sits third on the Vikes in scoring behind veterans Adam Klein and Shawn Mueller, and he leads all BCIHL defencemen with eight goals and 13 points.
Runners up for this week’s award include Simon Fraser University forward Trent Murdoch, Trinity Western
University forward Matthias Schmitt and Trinity Western University goaltender Silas Matthys.
