(ISN) – Spokane, WA- The Victoria Royals fell behind 3-1 in the second period, a deficit they were unable to comeback from in a 4-2 defeat to the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday night.
A late surge by the Chiefs in the middle frame saw Jason Fram and Adam Helewka score to extend Spokane’s lead to 3-1. The Royals would draw within one on a goal by Austin Carroll midway through the third period that was followed up by a furious attempt to draw even. Greg Chase scored the other marker for the Royals. The Chiefs’ Calder Brooks tallied two goals, which included an empty netter that put the game out of reach.
Coleman Vollrath backstopped the Royals with 34 saves on 37 shots including a penalty shot to keep the score 3-2 in the third period. The Chiefs started Garret Hughson in goal who stopped 30 of 32 shots.
Neither team would be able to capitalize with the man advantage. Victoria went 0/2=0.0% while Spokane went 0/3=0.0%
The Royals will conclude their road trip on Saturday when they visit the Interior Savings Centre to take on the Kamloops Blazers with puck drop at 7:00 p.m.
Victoria returns home to begin a four game homestand Tuesday, December 2nd against the Portland Winterhawks. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
