Thunderbirds get set for another tough test versus Saskatchewan

Vancouver, BC – The No.4 UBC Thunderbirds wrap up regular season play in 2014 by playing host to the No. 6 Saskatchewan Huskies Friday and Saturday night at War Memorial Gym.
The ‘Birds (4-2) return home after two straight weekends on the road in which they split with both Alberta and Winnipeg. As for the Huskies (4-2) they started the season with a pair of losses to Alberta, but since then have won four straight games, sweeping weekends series over Winnipeg and Victoria.
These two teams are no strangers to one another. The Huskies knocked the Thunderbirds out of the 2014 playoffs in three games en route to winning a Canada West Championship and this year UBC dominated Saskatchewan in the final of the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic hosted by Ryerson, winning 75-51.
The Huskies however were without their All-Canadian post Dalyce Emmerson in the pre-season game, so you can expect a tougher match up this weekend. This season Emmerson is averaging 13.5 points per game and 8.2 rebounds.
Sasktachewan’s roster is buoyed with an explosive and experience back-court comprised of fifth-year guards Riley Humbert and Kabree Howard. As well, Laura Dally, who transferred from Western Ontario, gives them another dynamic offensive weapon and a well-balanced inside-outside attack.
UBC will look to break its recent trend over the last two weekends of losing Friday night and winning Saturday night. Getting off to a good start will be key.
Kris Young leads the way for UBC, sitting fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. Harleen Sidhu is second on the team, putting up 13.0 points per game.
Tip off is set for 6:00 pm Friday night and 5:00 pm Saturday night at War Memorial Gym.
