STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford goalkeeper Jane Campbell made the decisive kick to give Stanford a 4-3 NCAA quarterfinal penalty-kick victory against Florida after the teams’ played to a 2-2 draw.
Stanford (20-1-3) advances to the NCAA College Cup for the sixth time in seven years, and will play Florida State in the semifinals Friday in Boca Raton, Fla.
Stanford took leads on goals by Taylor Uhl and Kendall Romine, but Florida (17-4-2) answered each time, including on Havana Solaun’s goal in the 79th minute.
In the shootout, Florida’s first two attempts failed – first on a shot off the post and then a save by Campbell – before making its next three. Stanford scored on its first two attempts, by Kendall Romine and Lo’eau LaBonta, and then had one saved before Haley Rosen, who hadn’t played the entire match, converted.
With the PK score at 3-3, Campbell took Stanford’s fifth attempt for the win, and delivered, sending the Cardinal back to the College Cup.
