(ISN) – Calgary, AB—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack enter the pre-Christmas portion of the Canada West women’s basketball season on a high.
The WolfPack won their final five games including a weekend sweep of the host Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary. On Saturday (Nov 29) the score was 63-46.
TRU has a 7 and 1 record and leads the Canada West Explorer Division. The Cougars fall to 3 and 5.
“IT was a grind it out affair in the first half,” stated WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves. “In the second half, we hit a few more threes which seemed to open things up for us offensively while Mount Royal struggled to hit their shots.”
The teams were tied 29-29 at the half.
TRU was led by for the second straight night by Taiysa Worsfold (4th year, guard, Kamloops, BC) with 16 points.
Kassie Colonna (3rd year, forward, Invermere, BC) had 15 points and 13 rebounds: 10 were on defense.
Shenise Sigsworth (2nd year, forward, Kamloops, CB) had 10 points coming off the bench.
For the first time this season, rookie Michille Bos (guard, Surrey, BC) failed to hit a double double. She had seven rebounds and four points in 30 minutes of playing time.
Mount Royal was led by Jayla Verney with 16 points. Tyleigha Nelson added 15 points.
The Cougars will pay a visit to TRU to end the regular season on February 6 and 7 th.
The WolfPack have only one game during the holiday season: It is December 30 th in Langley, BC against the Trinity Western University Spartans.
Their next home game will be their first league contest of the 2015 calendar year: Friday January 9 th at the Tournament Capital Centre against the UBCO Heat. Tip off is 6 pm.
