(ISN) – Winterhawks center and team captain Nic Petan has been invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp ahead of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The camp begins Dec. 11 at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Toronto, and the roster will be finalized on Dec. 25. The World Junior Championship then runs from December 26 – January 5 in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec.

Petan will be looking to make Canada’s World Junior Championship team for a second straight year. Last season, he represented Canada at the tournament and had four goals and an assist for five points in seven games. He also represented Team WHL at last month’s Subway Super Series.

“Nic had a great showing at least year’s camp that led to him making the team, and that experience will serve him well,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Jamie Kompon. “Every player dreams of representing their country, and this Selection Camp is a big step towards that privilege.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Selection Camp, and will do everything I can to make Team Canada again,” said Petan.

With the Winterhawks this season, Petan has totaled five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 22 games. He was a second round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL Draft.
