* Larry Walker won the 1997 NL MVP leading the league with 49 homers, a .452 on-base mark,  a .720 slugging average for a 1.172 OPS as Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox called him the best player in the game. Walker also hit .366 with 130 RBIs. Walker is on the Hall of Fame ballot for a fifthtime after being named on 10.2% of the ballots last January.
