(ISN) – Cariboo Cougars Captain Austin Grey has signed with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks.
The 17-year-old, from Prince George, leads the BCMML in scoring, with 37 points is, and expected to spend the remainder of the season with the Cariboo Cougars, before joining the Winterhawks to start next season.
Winterhawks Assistant GM Matt Bardsley said the WHL club saw high potential in Grey, who attended training camp with the team in August: “Austin had a really good training camp with us this year. His excellent start to his midget season has given him confidence that he is ready to play at the next level. We were prepared to sign him to a contract and he felt he was ready to make that commitment.”
The Cariboo Cougars remain in first place in the BCMML, and are home this weekend, taking on the Thompson Blazers at Kin 1 Arena. Saturday’s game starts at 7:15pm, while Sunday’s contest gets underway at 11:30am.
