(ISN) – The Victoria Grizzlies Hockey Club is announcing a front-office reorganization that will allow the team to focus efforts for the rest of the 2014-15 BCHL season.

Sonya Saujani, a member of the team’s community ownership group, has been named Vice-President of Business Operations, effective immediately, and will be supported closely by team President John Wilson and Lee Richardson. Wilson, of Wilson’s Transportation, and Richardson, the owner/operator of Sportball, are also members of the ownership team. “This is a challenging but exciting project for me to take on, and I know I have the support of John, Lee and the rest of the ownership group, along with a great staff,” said Saujani, a Victoria native with a vast background in financial management. “We are already working on exciting projects that will see our staff and our team make even greater in-roads into the community and help us build the support a BCHL team needs to not just survive, but to thrive.”

The Grizzlies also welcome aboard Jim Swanson, who has agreed to serve in an advisory capacity. Swanson is the General Manager/Vice-President of the Victoria HarbourCats. “Jim’s experience in sports marketing, promotion and operations is something that can help us, and this is a slower time for the HarbourCats so he is able to be available to us. We appreciate his willingness to help another community team – we’re all in this together,” said Saujani.

President John Wilson is also announcing the hockey operations department will be led by Don Robinson, who has taken on the role of Vice-President of Hockey Operations. Robinson will guide and support Head Coach/GM Craig Didmon and his staff, including off-ice support staff. “In order to move forward, it’s integral that we put a support structure in place that allows all aspects of the Grizzlies to be successful, to allow people to focus on their areas with their full attention,” said Wilson. “These changes will lead to effective efforts as we work to give Victoria-area hockey fans a great product, on and off the ice.”

The next Grizzlies home game is Saturday, 7pm, against the Merritt Centennials – it’s Teddy Bear Toss Night at The Q Centre. All Tuesday home games will be “Toonie Tuesdays” with admission just $2. The team is also excited about a “Heroes Night” that will take place in January, to celebrate the work of first responders and military, and many famous Superheros will be making an appearance that night at The Q Centre. Fans will be encouraged to muster up their favourite Superhero costume and have fun with the special guests on hand.
