Winterhawks Sign Austin Gray

(ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks have signed 17-year-old forward Austin Gray.

Gray, a native of Prince George, British Columbia, currently plays for the Cariboo Cougars of the British Columbia Major Midget League (BCMML), where he is expected to spend the remainder of the season before joining the Hawks full-time next season.

Gray currently leads the BCMML with 37 points (20 goals, 17 assists) in 19 games. Gray’s Cougars are also in first place in the BCMML.

“Austin had a tremendous showing at our training camp in August and he has carried that play into the season,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Jamie Kompon. “His approach to the game along with his style of play meet the standard we look for in a Winterhawk, and we’re excited that he’ll take the next step in his career with us next season.”
