Virginia beats Texas A&M 3-1 to reach first national championship match

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Virginia reached its first Women’s College Cup final with a 3-1 semifinal victory against Texas A&M on Friday.

Virginia will play the winner of Friday’s second semifinal between Florida State and Stanford.

Makenzy Doniak scored her 20th goal of the season in the 12th minute to give the Cavaliers the lead. The Aggies tied it when Kelley Monogue got her 18th of the year in the 31st minute.

Emily Sonnett scored the winner, her fifth goal of the year, in the 43rd minute. Alexis Shaffer got the final goal for Virginia in the 83rd, her seventh goal of the season.

Texas A&M was making its debut in the Final Four.
