Van Beilen sets personal best at World Short Course Swimming Championships


Doha, Qatar – Tera Van Beilen finished 16th in the 50m breaststroke and 27th in the 100m breaststroke at the 12th FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The fourth-year student and 2012 Olympian, set a personal best in the 50m breastsroke, touching the wall in 30.71, shaving 0.01 off her previous PB. She made it to the semi finals and finished 16th overall.

Van Beilen also competed in the 100m breaststroke, finishing 27th overall with a time of 1:06.61.

This season, Van Beilen and the women’s swim team won its sixth straight Canada West Championship and will go in search of the program’s fourth straight CIS National Championship this February in Victoria.

Former UBC Thunderbirds standout Martha McCabe also competed for Canada in Qatar. She made the final in the women’s 200m breaststroke finishing seventh in a time of 2:19.17.
