(ISN) – LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western forward PJ Buys (Newmarket, Ont.) has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League’s Player of the Week for the week ending December 7th.
Buys led the way offensively for TWU on Friday night as the league-leading Spartans wrapped their most successful fall semester in program history with a 5-2 victory over Eastern Washington.
The Spartans second leading scorer helped TWU build a three-goal lead in the opening period, assisting on markers by Micah Cockrill (Chilliwack, B.C.) and Florian Niedermaier (Davos, Switzerland) before scoring himself with 3:43 remaining in the frame.
After the Eagles cut the Spartans lead to one, Buys helped set up Cody Fidgett (Richmond, B.C.) for a power play goal with just nine seconds remaining in the second period to restore his team’s two-goal cushion.
Buys finished the night with a goal and three assists, marking his second consecutive four-point game. He enters the break fourth in league scoring with six goals and 14 assists through 12 regular season games.
Runners up for this week’s award include Simon Fraser University goaltender Jordan Liem, Eastern Washington University forward Paxton Bell and Simon Fraser University forward Jono Ceci.
