Canada M17 shaping squad for 2015 CONCACAF Championships

Just a few days after finding out their group at the 2015 CONCACAF Under-17 Championships, Canada’s Men’s U-17 Team will get down to work in Florida for their final camp of 2014.

On Monday, Canada was drawn into Group B for the tournament that takes place in February and March in San Pedro Sula, HON.

They’re alongside Costa Rica, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and Saint Lucia as they look for Canada’s third-straight FIFA U-17 World Cup berth.

“It’s exciting now that you know your opponents,” said Head Coach Sean Fleming. “We’ll get our shape organized and getting all the players in and do the final adjustments to get ready for qualification.”

The full team arrived on Wednesday 10 December with training getting underway the following day. They’ll go through seven days of training before breaking camp for the holiday season on Thursday 18 December.

Having coached Canada to the previous two competitions, Fleming knows how important these final few months are to a team’s preparation.

“The message to the players will be that we have to take care of all the little things. The little things will make the difference for you to be successful and qualify,” said Fleming. “That message is strong and clear. And we’ll be ready to play to the best of our abilities.”

Starting on 28 February, Canada will play Haiti, Costa Rica, Mexico, Saint Lucia, and Panama with the group stage concluding on 12 March. All of their games will be played at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano.

The group winner advances to the final with a spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 guaranteed while the second and third place teams will playoff with the second and third placed teams from the other group for the final two berths.
