Darrell May has been named the Director of Recruitment

(ISN) – Penticton, BC – The Western Hockey League and Okanagan Hockey Group announced today that Darrell May has been named the Director of Recruitment, Combines.

“I look forward to growing the WHL Combines into a useful tool for young hockey players to gauge their skills,” said May. “The combines are a great way for the kids who want to strive to possibly play in the WHL to judge their skills. Whether it is the best kids or the kids trying to achieve more, it definitely allows for these kids and their families to know where their skills lay and possible improvements that could be worked on.”

May graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 2010, while also playing on the men’s ice hockey team.

Prior to enrolling at UBC, May spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-City Americans, Vancouver Giants and Portland Winterhawks, amassing 156 points in 329 career games.

“We are very pleased to have Darrell join our staff,” said OHG President, Andy Oakes. “His experience as a player in the WHL and CIS will be a great addition to the Combines division as he will be able to relate directly with the parents and players participating in the program.”

“The WHL is very pleased to have one of our graduates of the WHL Scholarship Program take on a lead Manager role with our Combines program,” said WHL Commissioner, Ron Robison. “We look forward to expanding the impact our WHL Combines are having throughout Western Canada and the Western United States through Darrell’s leadership and our partnership with the Okanagan Hockey Group.”

The Western Hockey League, in partnership with Okanagan Hockey have tested more than 1000 players across Western Canada and the United States. The WHL Top Prospect Combines are designed to assist high level minor hockey players with their skill development and provide exposure to the WHL by participating in comprehensive on-ice and off-ice testing with state of the art equipment designed by Sport Testing Inc.
