MONTREAL – Zoe Fasoulakis and Claudia Agozzino, both members of the McGill University women’s soccer team have earned second-team all-star honours in the RSEQ conference.
Fasoulakis, a 5-foot-7 defender, started all 14 regular season games and was held scoreless. She was twice selected by opposing coaches as McGill’s player of the game. The native of Vancouver, B.C., is a 20-year-old science junior, majoring in kinesiology.
Agozzino, a 5-foot-7 rookie midfielder from St. Leonard, Que., finished third in team scoring with four points, including three goals in 14 starts. A 19-year-old civil engineering freshman, she was picked five times as McGill’s player of the game.
Overlooked in the voting conducted by the league’s eight head coaches was Rebecca Green, a senior from Green’s Harbour, Nfld., who led the Martlets in scoring with a 5-3-8 record in 15 contests.
The first team was dominated by division-leading Laval with six players on the 11-member squad. The second-place Montreal Carabins had three selections, followed by third-place Sherbrooke with two. The second dream team featured three players from Sherbrooke, plus two apiece from McGill, Montreal and Concordia, Laval and UQTR added one apiece.
Sherbrooke striker Marie-Ève Jacques, who led the league with a mind-boggling 22 goals and 11 assists, was named player of the year. Laval swept the three other major awards with Mélissa Roy (rookie of the year), Mélissande Guy (leadership) and Helder Duarte (coach of the year).
