Winterhawks Defeat Seattle 2-1


(ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks (17-14-0-3) defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds (13-14-2-2) 2-1 Saturday in Seattle.

After a scoreless first period, Chase De Leo opened the scoring on the power play at the 3:30 mark of the second to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Seattle evened it at the 6:15 mark when Keegan Kolesar scored to make it 1-1 which remained the score going into the third.

Blake Heinrich intercepted a Seattle pass and fed Miles Koules to make it 2-1 for the Hawks at the 12:39 mark of the third period. Seattle opted for an extra attacker with 2:40 left in the game leaving their net empty, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks won it 2-1.

Brendan Burke turned away 34 of 35 shots he faced from the Thunderbirds, while Seattle’s Taran Kozun allowed two goals on 25 shots.

The Hawks were a perfect 2-2 on the penalty kill and 1-4 on the power play.

The Hawks travel to Kennewick, WA tomorrow to take on the Tri-City Americans at 5:05 pm.
