Ottawa Rugby Community Rallies In Support

(ISN) – Ottawa – Joe Price is President of the Barrhaven Scottish RFC, newly elected this year, and his daughter Samantha is battling an aggressive form of breast cancer.

What is most disturbing about this breast cancer is how quickly and devastating the cancer is, and how rapidly it has spread, even with early detection.  Samantha had her first round of chemotherapy on December 1st, a 7-hour process from start to finish.  The cancer specialists have determined that they have no alternative to hit her with the highest levels of chemotherapy in order to stop the spread, and will continue to do so every 21 days until late winter 2015.

Joe has been forced to take an early sabbatical so he can focus on helping Samantha during this difficult time.  Although Joe remains active, we have him staying in the background for the immediate time being, and the Barrhaven Scottish RFC will push forward with our support of Samantha till she is well on her road to recovery.

Joe is also a former Balmy Beach RFC player, until he moved up to Ottawa 24 years ago and joined the Ottawa Scottish RFC, about the time I met him and his wife, Linda.

We started a fund-raising appeal Wed. December 3rd, after hearing first-hand just how hard the family was struggling to cope with the devastation. With their permission and support, the campaign launched to my friends and the rugby community here in Ottawa via Facebook and email.  By the end of day 1, we had raised $ 2500 and the link had been shared numerous times, friends, team-mates and colleagues were emailing the appeal and posting to their networks all through the power of social media, our incredible rugby community, and the grace of god.  The appeal is factual & totally transparent, and we have thanked every donor personally, so they know there is an organizer behind the campaign paying attention and following up with any questions or seeking more information.
