(ISN) – The Cariboo Cougars completed the pre-Christmas portion of their BC Major Midget League schedule with a weekend split on the road against the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
A 5-1 win on Saturday pushed the Cougars winning streak to 13, but their winning ways ended there as the Canadians skated to a 4-2 victory on Sunday.
Gary Dhaliwal scored twice in the third to break a 2-2 on Sunday, as the Cougars suffered their first loss since Oct. 26. Wesley Shipton in the first and Colton Thomas in the second scored for the Cougars.
It was a different story on Saturday as Thomas scored twice to lead the Cougars’ attack. He opened the scoring in the first and added an insurance marker early in the third. Shipton, Darren Hards, and Brendan Moore also lit the lamp.
At 22-3-1 on the year, the Cougars still have a lead over the rest of the BCMML pack.
Later this week the Cougars head east for the annual Mac’s AAA Tournament in Calgary. They open on Boxing Day against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and also have round-robin dates with the Calgary Northstars (Dec. 28); the Battlefords Stars (Dec. 29); and Markham Waxers (Dec. 30).
