PCC Celebrate A Successful 2014

(ISN) – What a year for PCC athletes. 2014 was a banner year with podium finishes in local, provincial and National Championships. Many athletes pulled off personal bests throughout the year, and some from the talent development program made the national standards representing Canada at UCI Track World Cups.

Here are some highlights:

In May at the Robert W. Cameron Cycling Series in Victoria, Chris Macleod and Alex Amiri finished first and second in the U19 Accent Inns Cycling Classic Road Race repeating their performances in the Criterium.

In June, James Grant and Jordan Landolt won provincial titles in the BC Youth Road Provincial Championship and Youth / Elite Time Trials, Jordan winning the Elite Time Trial and James, winning the U17 Time Trial.

In July at the 2014 Marymoor Grand Prix, Evan Carey won the Keirin and the Sprint tournament, and was awarded the best rider award of the GP. Evan with Andrew Grant and Alex Amiri all podiumed in the team Sprint.

In August at Track Fest at the Westshore Velodrome, Alex Amiri, won the U19 Omnium and the Match Sprint. Evan Carey won Elite Sprint tournament, including the Match Sprint and Keirin. Rachel Carey won the U17 Sprint tournament, including the Match Sprint and Keirin. James Grant and Mark Grant were 2nd and 3rd in the U17 Omnium.

In September, PCC coached athletes dominated the BC Provincial Track Championships in the Men’s Sprint and U19 endurance Omnium. In the Elite Men category the Provincial Championship Sprint Omnium was won by Evan Carey, winning all five segments of the Omnium and becoming the BC Premier Track Cup Elite Men’s Sprint leader. In the Elite Women, category 3 / 4 Alexandra Grant won the Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium and the BC Premier Track Cup leader Jersey, with Katie Chater taking 3rd place. The U19 Men Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium was won by Alex Amiri. He won three of six segments of the Omnium and took the BC Premier Track Cup for U19 men and track endurance leader jersey. Alex was also part of the winning team for the team pursuit (a mixed team of U19 with Trevor Stothard, Jackson Pickell and U17 John Wilcox.) In the U17 Men Eloi Batista was second in the Endurance and Sprint Omnium. Rachel Carey finished second in the Provincial Championship Sprint Omnium and took the BC Premier Track Cup U17 Women Sprint leader jersey. In the U17 Women, Jessica Reynolds took 3rd place in the Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium. Rachel Carey and Jessica Reynolds won the team Sprint.

In November, Evan Carey was selected to the Canadian National Team in the elite team sprint to compete in Guadalajara, Mexico at the UCI Track World Cup. The same month PCC riders participated in the Junior and U17 National Track Championships winning three National Championships titles for a total of seven podium finishes, and many new personal bests. Rachel Carey, Chris Macleod and Alex Amiri each took team titles – Rachel in the U17 Team Sprint, Chris in the Junior Men’s Team Pursuit, and Alex in the Junior Men’s Team Sprint.

PCC’s success is the result of the hard work put in by all athletes, and the superior training program within the coaching system, led by Houshang Amiri. In 2014 Houshang spent over 370 hours at the track and as many hours on the road coaching his athletes.

Congratulations to Houshang and all athletes for a great year.
