Karen Aston returns Texas women’s basketball to renewed heights

92

Following former Texas women’s basketball coach Gail Goestenkors resigning in 2012, the program wanted to return to its roots.

To do that, the Longhorns targeted former assistant coach Karen Aston, who was at the school from 1998-2006. Aston became only the fourth coach in Texas women’s basketball history.

Through two seasons as the Texas head coach, Aston’s squad went 34-30 record, including five wins against ranked opponents and the Longhorns’ first win in the NCAA tournament since 2008.

Aston accomplished those feats by renewing Texas’ well-worn connections and ways of old.
