Another Slow Start Costs the Royals

(ISN) – In the first period the Royals came out flat showing no jump and no emotion, the cougars got the early goal- Pochiro from Olson at 2:57. The Royals 0-3-1 who are without coach Dave Lowry and star player Joe Hicketts played their worst period since moving from Chilliwack. They were outshot 14-5.

The second period was more of the same with the Royals being outworked In every facet of the game when Prince George scored their second goal by Victoria native Haydn Hopkins.

The Royals were lazy on defence not getting into position with their sticks in the shooting lanes NS after the Cougars scored their 3rd goal, 9 minutes into the period Coleman Vollrath was pulled. He allowed 3 goals on 20 shots. Tyler Soy missed a penalty shot at 11:32 but redeemed himself 2 min later scoring on a nice backhand. Shots in the 2nd period were 12-7 for the Cougars. In the 3rd the Royals came out hard playing with speed and intensity. Tyler soy scored a nice goal at 10:16 to cut the lead in half followed by a drive the net goal by Greg Chase at 18:58. It was too little too late however. The Royals have now lost their last 5 games. With tonight’s win the cougars move to within a point of the 5th place Royals. Tomorrow afternoon’s game at 1 becomes a showdown for 5th place in the WHL’s Western Conference.
