Winners of seven of their last eight games and three in a row since the Christmas break, the Dallas Stars (17-14-5) open their January 2015 schedule with a home tilt against the Minnesota Wild (18-14-4). Game time is 7:00 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
This is the fourth of five meetings between the teams this season.
The season series concludes on Feb. 22 in St. Paul.
The Wild have won all three games played against the Stars this season. Each game took place in November. On Nov. 1 in St. Paul, the Wild prevailed by a 4-1 score. On Nov. 15 in Dallas, the Wild took a 2-1 regulation decision. On Nov. 28, the visiting Wild won by a 5-4 count in overtime.
The Stars enter this game coming off a 6-0 trouncing of the Arizona Coyotes at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night. Brett Ritchie scored his first NHL goal to open the scoring are a scoreless opening period. Dallas later got tallies by Colton Sceviour, Jamie Benn, Cody Eakin, Ales Hemsky and Ryan Garbutt. Kari Lehtonen notched a 32-save shutout.
On the Dallas injury front, Patrick Eaves (ankle), Valeri Nichushkin (hip surgery) and Patrik Nemeth (severe forearm laceration from a skate cut) remain on the injured reserve list. Shawn Horcoff (illness) is day-to-day and did not practice on Friday.
Minnesota is 2-1-1 since the Christmas break. The Wild, who are playing the second half of back-to-back games, enter this game coming off a 3-1 home win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
